Key Stage 3
This module is an introduction to practical electronics. Students learn how to solder safely and accurately onto a printed circuit board. The students determine their own flash rate for the LEDs and learn to assess their own work. The students develop an alien shape using 2D design software and the product is cut from acrylic using the laser cutter.
Professional packaging is then designed to suit the product. A design work booklet is used to reinforce the practical work, self -assess and evaluate their product.
In this module pupils progress from the work undertaken in Y7. The pupils produce a mood light that will only light up in darkened room. They identify the components used and understand how they work in a system. Pupils drill, assemble and solder their own circuit. The product is put into a laser cut case made from polypropylene and again use CAD / CAM to produce professional packaging for it. A design work booklet is used to reinforce the practical work, self -assess their work and to evaluate their product.
In Year 9 pupils choose which strand of DT they would like to specialise in and spend the whole year in that strand. The Year 9 electronics course allows pupils to work in real depth on a number of challenging projects, with the time to experiment with new methods of manufacture they would otherwise not have time to explore on a conventional carousel system. It is also an excellent preparation for the GCSE course in Year 10. Projects this year include a PIC chip thermometer and a sound to light MP3 player with built in amplifier.
Key Stage 4
Years 10 & 11
This course offers pupils the opportunity to design and make practical solutions to design problems which involve electronic circuitry. Pupils are also required to design and manufacture a suitable package for the circuit taking into account the purpose of the product and its working environment using either traditional methods or with the laser cutter. There will also be opportunities for students to work with the latest PIC (Programmable) Microchips.
During Year 10 pupils will complete two projects. For each project pupils will be required to submit a design folder, an electronic circuit and a manufactured case to house the circuit. The first project will introduce pupils to microchips and the second project will introduce them to PIC (Programmable) Microchips.
Examples of these projects may be; a game of skill and a steady hand game.
Electronic theory will be embedded throughout the projects.
60% coursework (40% making – 20% controlled assessment (design folder). 40% written paper (testing related design issues and electronic theory and calculations).Single tier entry.
Controlled Assessment :
Estimated 20 pages of A4 covering the following stages of the design process; research, analysis, specification, ideas, development, planning, evaluation, communication and IT, planning, industrial practices/systems and control.

In Key stage 3 pupils will be introduced to the key concepts of electronics, will identify the basic components and adapt circuits to fulfil a design brief. They will develop their practical skills of soldering and fault finding using a range of electronic equipment. They will also package their products using a range of styles and materials.

Ты мне только что приснился. Приходи поиграть. - На улице еще темно, - засмеялся. - А-ах, - сладко потянулась. - Тем более приходи.
